The Billings Montana Temple rests at the base of Montana’s Rimrocks, a 300-foot sandstone cliff formation that runs along the northwest end of Billings in the Upper Yellowstone Valley. The cliffs make an awe-inspiring setting for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ 66th temple, the first in Montana’s Big Sky Country.Latter-day Saints consider temples to be holy places where they can learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ and commit to living a Christlike life. The Billings Montana Temple has the same functions as the many Mormon temples throughout the world. Within the 33,800-square-foot temple are instruction rooms, a baptistry, and a chapel. The temple also contains sealing rooms, where a man and a woman can be married for this life and for eternity, and a celestial room. On the west side of the temple, a beautiful bay window made of stained glass allows natural light into the celestial room, which symbolizes heaven on earth.
