Glistening against the azure Ohio sky, the Columbus Ohio Temple is a white marble structure amidst rich green trees in western Columbus. It is the 60th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is located about 150 miles southwest of the Church’s first temple, the Kirtland Temple, which was dedicated in 1836.
The 10,700-square-foot edifice shares a contemporary, single-spire design with over 30 temples across North America and the globe. These temples were constructed as part of an accelerated temple-building program initiated by Church President Gordon B. Hinckley, who desired to bring more temples closer to Church members.
