On October 1, 2011, in the 181st Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Thomas S. Monson announced the construction of six new temples. These sacred structures would be built throughout the world, in Provo, Utah; Paris, France; Barranquilla, Colombia; Star Valley, Wyoming; Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo; and Durban, South Africa. The Durban and Kinshasa Temples would be the fourth and fifth temples built on the African continent.
