The Portland Oregon Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stands among picturesque evergreens near Oregon’s largest city. The tallest of the temple’s six white spires towers 181 feet into the air, capped with a golden statue of the angel Moroni. The Portland Oregon Temple is the Church’s 42nd operating temple and the first to be built in Oregon. It serves Church members in Oregon and Washington.
The 7.3-acre temple grounds are located in Lake Oswego, Oregon. When Church leaders bought this tract of land, they originally planned to build a Church-sponsored junior college there. That plan was later abandoned, and in 1986, Gordon B. Hinckley, then a member of the Church’s First Presidency, broke ground for a temple.
