Ten miles north of downtown San Antonio on a prominent rise in the Texas Hill Country stands the San Antonio Texas Temple. It is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ 120th operating temple and the fourth built in Texas, following the Dallas Texas Temple (1984), the Houston Texas Temple (2000) and the Lubbock Texas Temple (2002).During a visit to San Antonio on June 24, 2001, Church President Gordon B. Hinckley announced plans to construct the temple. A year later, on August 19, 2002, the First Presidency of the Church announced the temple’s location. The 20-acre site, which includes approximately 5.5 acres dedicated to the temple grounds, also includes a building where Church materials and clothing can be purchased.
